Cody was tired by the end of the blind date but couldn't deny Karli had been a somewhat sufficient distraction from his worrying about Carmen. As suspected, he managed to keep the conversation going by bringing up something he already knew she liked. Talking about books wasn't the worst way to spend the evening.
The movie was fairly entertaining too. At the end of the night he was ready to go home and never bother doing something like this again but what Karli said as she smiled at him gave him pause.
"I had a lot of fun tonight, Cody. I could tell you were distracted the whole time and I completely understand why but I'd like for us to do this again when you aren't coming straight from taking a close friend to the hospital. If you want to, I mean."
She was more perceptive than he gave her credit for. She also knew he hadn't been a very good date and didn't seem to care. She was the most easygoing outsider he had met aside from Claire; obviously not the type to offend easily.
