Wil rubbed the back of his neck. "Actually, I arrived last night… just stayed in my unit upstairs. Don't want to disturb your sleep."
Scarlet arched a brow but didn't push. "Alright. Come in. Sit. I'll make you coffee."
As she turned toward the kitchen, her voice floated back casually, "So, how was the trip? You said one week. Turned into a whole month. Something happened at the company?"
Wil sat down slowly, the cool leather biting into his back again. "Not… really," he replied, hesitating.
Scarlet's voice lost its lilt.
She peeked from the kitchen archway. "Wil."
"Yeah?"
"You're acting off." Her expression grew serious. "You don't have to lie to me, son. You know, I can sense things that ordinary humans couldn't. So… what is it?"
Wil sighed, looking down at his hands.
Then up again, at the mother.
"You remember… that trip we took to Wular City?" he asked.
"For Hyori's archery championship?" she tilted her head.
