Each heartbeat that passed represented billions in advancement, each breath she took rewrote the glory of what power meant.
But even as a few seconds passed…three billion, four billion, five billion with each tick of time, his expression shifted from wonder to something heavier.
Without warning, he disconnected from Sigrid's forehead, the loss of that intimate connection leaving a cold space between them. His gaze turned outward, piercing through the twisted corridors of the Doorway toward the distant exit that lay beyond the winding pathways.
Something was wrong.
