Mel crawled through the vents toward the dining room. Sweat dripped onto the hot metal, and her skin peeled away from it with each movement.
"Almost there, Mel. After this, you can have a nice, relaxing bath."
The dining hall came into sight, and Mel found the old man picking at his dinner. She covered her red eye and squinted through the vent. One scene, seemingly set in stone, appeared before Mel. Magic poured into her golden eye, and the vision became clearer.
Rei left the castle. He went North at a mystical speed-
"Ouch," Mel rubbed her eye. Tears welled up and the pain gradually subsided.
Mel focused her magic again, and Rei was now in a village. A vibrant smell caught her attention. She turned to find a field of flowers stretching into the distance. The old man headed to a small house on the edge of this field. There, a teenage boy walked out of the hut, cradling something in his hands. Mel shifted in the vent, trying to get a better look at what the boy was holding.
Mel!
Mel nearly jumped out of her skin as her Grandpa called for her. His gaze fixed on the vent.
Her arms shook against the scorching metal as the old man rose from his seat and began to approach the vent.
Mel took a shaky breath. Regaining her focus, she returned to her vision.
White flashed before her eyes, and she squinted. The vision came back, and she saw the boy on the ground, along with pieces of pitch-black glass scattered on the ground.
Mel!
"Escape." Mel teleported, landing on top of an elaborate magic circle. "Thoughts traverse."
Yes?
Don't take that tone with me. Get to the dining hall. I need you to get rid of the giant termite that was in the vents.
I'll be there right now.
Mel rubbed her temples. "Who was that boy? What was that glass? None of that vision made any sense."
