Chapter 41 - It Feels Great To Return

[The Abandoned Streets]

The blonde man who was bitten by Lily earlier was currently hiding inside an old abandoned house while bandaging his bite wound.

"Damn it..." he muttered. "This wasn't supposed to happen... The plan should've worked..."

The man was beginning to sweat as he slowly felt dizzy.

"Shit, I think it's infected... That f*cking beastkin," he murmured. "We should've just grabbed them and run... If I ever get that brat, I'm going to pull out those teeth..." he thought.

Once the man finished wrapping his hand, he fell backwards as he heard shouting from a distance.

"!"

"Search the houses! He should be nearby!" a man shouted.

They were the city guards known as the Blue Plates. Out of the three men, only the blonde man avoided capture.

"I should run but..." he paused.

The man's vision began to blur. He then looked at his hand and noticed purple veins were beginning to expand out of the bandage.

"Shit..." he murmured.

Just then, he heard a voice.

"Fufu, it looks like you're in a precarious situation," the voice said.

"Huh?"

At this point, the man was not able to speak properly as he was getting weaker and weaker from the bite.

"If you don't run the guards will find you and they will capture you... But even if you run, the poison from the bite will continue to spread and kill you shortly after..." the voice explained. "Oh my... Oh my... You are in trouble..."

"Haha, am I losing my mind?" the man wondered. "It feels like there really someone next to me..."

At the same time, the sounds of doors being kicked down can be heard from a distance.

"He's not in here!" someone shouted.

"Check the houses over there!"

"Oh my... If you don't run now, they're going to find you soon," the voice chuckled.

The man attempted to get up but he no longer had any strength left in his body. He was completely immobile.

"Is this the end for me?" he wondered. "The one time I tried to do something on my own and this happens..."

Just then, the voice began to laugh.

"Pfft, hahahahaha! Yours was by far the worse kidnapping attempt I've seen in centuries! Hahahaha!" the voice laughed. "If it makes you feel better, even if you had succeeded in kidnapping those two kids, you wouldn't have gotten far. That means... No ransom money... Just death as they tie a noose around your neck and flay you. You were doomed to fail! Hahaha!"

As the voice continued to laugh, the man barely reacted and simply lied on the ground.

"I really must losing my mind," the man thought. "Just find me and be done with it... I'm too much in pain to even care now..."

As the blonde man slowly accepted his fate, the voice's laughter slowly died down, and eventually, there was nothing but silence. The voice then began to talk again.

"It's only a matter of time now..." the voice said. "How about making a deal with me?"

"What?" the man thought.

"It's simple. If you make a deal with me, I'll give you the strength that is unimaginable to an average human. In short, you can use that power to escape," the voice said. "In exchange for giving you this amazing power, I'll take control of your body for a short time for my own purposes. What do you think?"

The man was hesitant for a moment but just then, he heard voices just behind the door.

"Kick this door down as well."

"Understood."

"Damn it, I guess I got nothing to lose..." the man thought. "Deal," he coughed out.

"Fufu... Excellent," the voice chuckled. "This is going to hurt a little bit."

Suddenly, the man felt as if his entire body was being electrocuted and began to shake violently. At the same time, the door was kicked down by a man in bluish armor.

"We found him!" the city guard shouted. "You're under arrest for attempting to... What the?"

The city guards were surprised to see the blonde man shaking violently on the ground.

"Is he having a seizure?" a city guard asked.

"I don't know... But we still have to take him back to the station," said another guard. "Someone get some rop--"

The man abruptly stopped shaking and lied still on the ground. He then slowly began to stand up.

"Oi, stop right there," a city guard said. "You're coming with us."

"..."

The man silently stood still. Irritated, the city guard began to approach the man while holding a rope.

"If you quietly come with us then nobody has to get hur--"

The city guard was abruptly silenced as the man's elbow connected with the guard's jaw.

"Curtis!" the second city guard shouted as he looked at his friend. "Have you gone mad, you bastard?!"

The angered guard pulled out a sword from his side.

"Fufufu... Ah, it's great to be in a physical body again~" the man smiled.

He then turned around which caused the standing guard to flinch when he saw his face. Blue veins began to appear on the man's face as his eyes turned completely black.

"What's wrong with him?" the city guard wondered.

When the man began to walk forward, the city guard pointed his sword at the man's chest.

"Don't even think about moving," the guard warned. "You just sealed your fate by attacking a Blue Plate."

The guard then thrust his sword.

"?!"

The man was able to grab the blade with his bare hands before it can pierce his chest.

"No, no. I don't intend on dying yet," the man smirked.

In a blink of an eye, the man rushed the city guard and grabbed his throat. Before the guard could even realize what happened, the man slammed him onto the ground.

"E... Erg..." the city guard grunted.

Before the guard could stand back up, the man pulled a dagger out of his jacket and raised the guard's visor.

"Beg," the man smirked as he pointed his dagger at the guard's left eye. "Beg like a craven and I will spare your life."

"Heh, go f*ck yourself," the guard chuckled before spitting at the man's face. "The moment you kill me, every Blue Plates will be after you."

The guard then grabbed the man's wrist and attempted to pull out his flintlock pistol. However, before he could, the man stabbed him in the eye.

"You fool, it wasn't a jest when I said I would spare your life if you beg," the man sighed. "Pride won't save you in this situation."

The city guard began to shout in pain as he grabbed his pistol. Before he could use it, the man simply twisted the dagger that was still in the guard's eye socket which inflicted even more pain.

"AAAHHHHHH!!!"

The guard began to scream louder as he desperately grabbed the man's arms to overpower him. His whole body was shaking for a few seconds before he slowly stopped struggling.

"You're a rather tough one," the man smiled. "Ah... Never mind, you're dead... That was too quick..."

The guard twitched for a few seconds before he stopped moving entirely. He died.

"Now, let's get out of here before more of his friends arrive," the man thought as he pulled out his dagger.

The man then wiped his bloody dagger with a nearby rag and calmly walked out of the house. He began to look around and took a deep breath.

"What to do now..." the man wondered. "Should I just charge into the castle right away? No, no... It seems like they tripled the guards in the castle while I was away... I'll probably die again before I can even reach the princess..."

After a second of thinking, he smiled.

"Ah! The festival!" the man shouted. "There's probably going to some sort of huge feast in a few days or so... I could blend in as a servant and that's when... Wow, I am such a genius!" he laughed.

After patting himself on the shoulder, he happily whistled while walking down the streets.

"I can't wait to see the princess again~ I have a few questions to ask..." he thought. "I could've sworn that I stabbed her neck but for some reason, that didn't happen... Hm..."

He then shrugged.

"Oh well... I can just stab her again," he thought. "I wonder what kind of faces her parents will make when I bring her head to them?"

The man began to chuckle once more as he imagined himself torturing the princess.

"Fufufu... I can't wait!" he shouted. "This will definitely be a festival no one will ever forget~!

Suddenly, he stopped walking.

"Oh, that's right... I should probably finish the other guy off as well..." he murmured.

He then turned around to see the guard that he elbowed earlier was still lying on the ground unconscious.
