Chapter 14 - 14. The Gas Cell: Escape at all Costs

Wherever she was, she was surrounded. Different women of each race from around tge world were around her. Some looked raggedy, their clothing torn. Their hair was a mess and their skin was scratched up.

There was only a handful that had just got there. She had watched as three more were just put in a little over an hour ago. How they got into the enclosed room was beyond her comprehension.

No one had said a word to her. Nine had even glanced over at her. She tried introducing herself but no one would reasons to her. Even though she was surrounded, she felt so alone.

One of the girls were scratching at the walls. Whining and sobbing as her fingertips left behind blood with each scratch. Katrina walked over to her and moved her hand away from the wall.

"Come on, now." she said softly, "you're going to hurt yourself." She ripped her sleeve off and wrapped the girl's hand. "There. All better."

As she did this act of kindness, she felt the eyes of the other girls. Every single one had turned her way. Some looked away when she noticed them, but most kept watching.

Noticing now that she had gotten their attention, Katrina stood straight up. "Listen here, my name is Katrina. I don't know where I am. I don't know where you're all from. But we need to find a way out."

The women all bursted out in laughter. Mocking her, Katrina grew angry. She sat back down, grunting at how absurd they were being. She looked around.

Unlike Doren's room, this one was lit up. It was much larger, but felt more cramped. The walls were made out of the strange spongy, but hard material. However, the floor was made of wood and the ceiling had a single window that only an Ament could fit through.

She studied the women, who had finally quieted down. They consisted of all shapes and sizes. In the furthest corner, she had seen a giant female. Sitting down, her head was just inches from the ceiling.

Katrina scooted through the girls and sat next to the giant. "My name is Katrina."

"Yeah. I heard you." the giant responded. "I'm Herstring. But most people call me String."

"Nice to meet you, String." Katrina held out a hand and the giant took it. "You know, I've never seen a giant before."

"You ain't from the North mountain range area then. We have village's guarding the entrance to Underetern." she said.

"You're right. But where I'm from is unimportant. You however could be very important to helping us escape." Katrina grinned, now looking towards the other girls.

An eruption of laughter came from the giant. "You think we haven't tried? Listen. I've seen many girls come and go from this place. We aren't escaping."

Katrina hugged her knees. No way out? But women come and go. She perked up at the thought. Frantically and excitedly, she stood up.

"So, women leave here all the time?" Katrina asked.

The giant put up a hand. "Yeah, but they usually knock us out to prevent escaping. They use a gas to put us to sleep."

Katrina began ripping up pieces of her clothing. She was left with what looked like underwear from her ripped up pants and nothing more than a bra she had under her blouse.

She looked over at the giant and grinned. "When they take their next woman, we wrap our faces with cloth. The vapors from the gas can't put us to sleep if we don't inhale it."

They waited for a couple hours. Then, the gas started flowing through the window on the ceiling. Anyone who was willing to get out of the room took pieces of Katrina's clothes and covered their mouths real quickly.

Once the other women had been knocked out, they all acted like they were the same. Three shadowy figures opened up the wall and shoved a girl in. Two of them had entered the room and went to grab Katrina. In a sudden dash for the door, Katrina knocked one over. The giant girl ran over both of them.

All the women ran towards the door now besides those asleep. However, before Katrina could reach it, it had closed. Almost running into it, Katrina smacked the wall.

"Dammit!" she yelled, smacking the wall over and over again.

Herstring came up behind her and grabbed her away. "Come on, we may not have escaped, but we do have a couple of those creeps." she said, pointing behind her.

Angry, but understanding, Katrina took a breath and moved the piece of cloth from her mouth. She slicked her hair out of her face and turned around. The shadow figures had made form. They were two older men, receding hair and wrinkles.

In an awe, the men struggled to get released from the weakened women. To no avail, they ended up giving up. Shaking, they gave into the women.

Katrina walked to them, cracking her knuckles. She pierced into the men's eyes. "Let me ask you something. And I'm only going to ask once." She took a step closer. "You have one answer to give and it is the truth." Another step forward, she clenched a fist. "How do we get out?"

Stuttering and fumbling for an answer, Katrina grew inpatient and came a bit closer to them. At last, one of the men said, "Do you think we would honestly tell you? What can you do that our boss wouldn't? You don't scare me, lady."

She looked down at the men, cracking her knuckles once more. She hovered over them and drew back. By the time she was done, the men were battered and bruised. Gasping for breathe, from broken ribs, the men's powers wouldn't even flicker on.

"Last chance before we put you down." Katrina said. The other women cowered at how she had pummeled them. She held up a blood soaked hand and drew back the other.

"No, please. No more." they pleaded with her.

She once again began hitting them. Strike after strike, the men's bodies began to rag doll and fall back with each contact she made. "Tell us." Punch. "How to." Hit. "Get out!" One more hit. The men were unconscious at this point.

At long last, the giant moved her back from the men. "No more, hun. I think that they are done for now." As she finished her sentence, the gas began to flow through the window once again.

She drew back and yelled out, "Get your masks back on!" They all did what they were told. Pulling the masks up over their faces, they waited by where the door had opened up from.

The gas flowed into the room. This time it was more potent than the last bit. The fumes on their skin felt like tiny needles entering their pores. Overwhelming for some, they fell to their knees.

Katrina, Herstring, and a couple others stayed standing. Once the door opened again, a the force of a typhoon pushed them back. Once the shadows showed themselves, Katrina leapt towards them.

Followed by Herstring and those that were still standing, they escaped the room. Landing on top of the shadowy figures, the shadows parted way and scattered to the trees in the area. Like before, older men were before them.

They could care less who these men were. The majority of these women were happy to see the outside world once more. Katrina on the other hand wanted answers now. Joining beside her were Herstring and a darker woman that neither of them knew.
