DING-DONG! DING-DONG!
The crisp doorbell echoed throughout the house. In the bedroom, Lin Xianyu slept amidst a pile of plush toys. Her ears twitched as she stirred. She turned, pulled the blanket over her head, and pretended not to hear the doorbell.
Ten years had passed. Time had not only failed to leave any mark on Lin Xianyu but had even seemed to turn back. Since living alone in a large room, her sleeping positions had regressed towards those of a toddler. Heaven knows how she managed to sleep with her feet propped up against the wall.
After ringing three times, the doorbell quieted. A few seconds later, the bedroom door silently swung open. The well-oiled hinges made no sound, as if a gentle breeze had pushed the door ajar.
There were no footsteps, no sounds of breathing.
But Lin Xianyu knew very well that someone was moving through the darkness.
