My Lovely Cartel

DityaR_
For several seconds, I forgot how to breathe. My mother stood in the doorway, a gun held steadily in her right hand. Her dark hair was shorter than I remembered from the photographs, and a thin scar crossed her cheek. But her eyes were unmistakable. My eyes. “Elena,” she whispered. The sound of my name coming from her lips nearly broke me. I took one hesitant step forward. “Mom?” Her expression crumpled for a fraction of a second before she raised her weapon again. “Don't come any closer.” I stopped. Behind me, Adrian moved slightly, positioning himself between me and the open vault. My mother noticed immediately. “Adrian Moretti,” she said coldly. “Of course you're here.” He raised his hands, keeping them away from his gun. “Mrs. Reed.” “Don't call me that.” “Then tell us what we should call you.” She ignored him, her attention fixed on me. “You shouldn't have come here.” I laughed, although there was nothing funny about the situation. “That's your opening line? You disappear for my entire life, turn up with a gun, and tell me I shouldn't have come?” Pain flashed across her face. “You don't understand.” “Then explain it to me!” The words burst from my mouth before I could stop them. “Where were you? Why did Dad tell me you were gone? Why did everyone let me believe you abandoned me?” My mother lowered her weapon slightly. “Your father didn't want you to know what happened.” “Convenient.” “Elena—” “No. You don't get to say my name like you have any right to comfort me.” Silence filled the vault. For the first time, her gun began to tremble. “I never abandoned you,” she whispered. “I stayed away because the people who killed your father were looking for you. If they believed I was dead, they would stop searching for both of us.” “And you thought leaving me alone was protecting me?” “I thought it was the only way to keep you alive.” I shook my head. “Everyone keeps saying that. Adrian said it. My father wrote it. Now you say it. Apparently, the only way to love me is to lie to me.” Adrian looked down. My mother closed her eyes briefly. “You have every right to hate me.” “Good. At least we agree on something.” A distant explosion shook the warehouse. Dust fell from the ceiling. Lucian hurried toward the entrance. “We need to leave. The countdown must have triggered another mechanism.” My mother immediately pointed her gun at him. “Stay where you are.” Lucian froze. “Who activated the explosives?” Adrian demanded. My mother looked at him. “Marcus.” “Marcus is outside?” “He's been watching this place from the beginning.” Adrian swore and moved toward the doorway. My mother fired a shot into the floor in front of him. “Don't move!” He stopped, his expression murderous. “You've got about three seconds to explain why I shouldn't put a bullet through your shoulder.” “Because Marcus has your brother's blood on his hands, and he's about to make sure you join him.” A second explosion thundered overhead. The lights flickered. My mother turned to me. “There's a tunnel behind the filing cabinets. It leads to the docks. Take Adrian and Lucian and get out.” I stared at her. “What about you?” “I have something to finish.” “No.” Her eyes widened. I stepped toward her despite the weapon in her hand. “You don't get to disappear again. Not after everything.” For a moment, she looked like she might cry. Then she reached into her coat and pulled out a small silver object. My pendant. She tossed it toward me. I caught it instinctively. “The key inside that pendant opens a second compartment in the vault,” she said. “Your father left something there specifically for you.” I looked down at the necklace. “What is it?” “The truth about who ordered his death.” Adrian went completely still. My mother turned toward him. “And the truth about what your father did before he died.” His face hardened. “What does that mean?” She looked at him with an expression I couldn't decipher. “Anth

(Chapters 1 to 40 are being edited right now) (Note: Reading Prologue is not necessary, hence why it's an Auxiliary Chapter) The Path to Immortality is elusive, and everyone wants to achieve it even if there's only a glimmer of hope. Tian Yongheng is a person who regained his past life memories after his family was brutally slaughtered. His extreme fear of death and desire to be undying have forced him to step onto this dangerous path of Immortal Cultivation. He is not a Chosen One who is the favored son of heavens, nor is he the reincarnation of a Immortal Emperor. Armed with a unique system of unknown origins and his obsession with immortality, he sets forth to carve a way of his own in this world where fate toys with one's very existence itself and cosmic horror-like beings devour universes for fun. However, can he really touch the illusory, eternal, and ethereal Immortal Dao that is everlasting and everchanging? Will he ever be able to reach the end of this grand path to eternity, establishing himself as a myth and beyond? or will he also drown in the long river of history just like many others? ------- The background settings and world building of this story are greatly inspired by Top Tier Providence, Secretly Cultivate for a Thousand Years. the main characters are also pretty similar, so if you like stories where the MC is a hidden powerhouse who, despite being hidden, is still known across the world, then you can give it a try. Please be patient while reading, as this is my first time writing a novel and don't hesitate to point out any mistakes I do in the comments. Also, I'm not a native of China, so there are probably going to be a lot of mistakes in names and history and stuff, please bear with it. Note: English is not my first language and the cover image is not mine. At the end of every week, Sunday GMT+8, 1 extra chapter will be released per 100 Power Stones, and at the end of every month, 1 extra chapter will be released per 10 Golden Tickets.

A Simple Priest... Or so I thought

This world has certainly changed since the last time I died... In the United States, if you're from a rural town, you better get home before nightfall, or you might run into the madman with the chainsaw. One rule most people know is: never enter a stranger’s house, or you might find yourself in a wax museum. And if you're planning a fun night with friends, don't choose a cabin in the middle of the woods. If you're a scientist and you want to study something that might be beyond your control, don't do it in the middle of a small town. Jonathan had heard many stories throughout his working life as a priest, and he had dealt with all kinds of problems—killer clowns, young people possessed by evil spirits, a disturbing dark being that invaded people's dreams, murderous dolls, monsters in the mist, and those things that only happen in a lighthouse. As a priest, Jonathan had to take care of every real problem that came his way. Of course, his fees weren’t exactly cheap. Whenever he took on a case, whether it was counseling or a cleansing, the results were always exactly what people hoped for. Jonathan has to admit that sometimes he used a bit more gunpowder than necessary to handle a case, but he always solved everything with a single prayer: "I ask you, God, to show me how to be open, but also teach me how to guard my heart. Help me not to fight the wrong way, but instead to think like a warrior of the kingdom. Thank you for being the light that guides my steps. I give you glory and praise for being my waymaker." Jonathan is the greatest warrior of God among humans.

Avatar: Legends
